Still no CEL though!
After nearly 20 years...my LCD digital clock is broken. Since it came with a free Volkswagen...this could be a hassle.
I mean who sells LCD digital watches these days? Let alone ones that come with a free dual cab ute?

Almost a fair offer. Given however that you can not come and pick it up nor can I deliver it without one of us spending three grand for two weeks in a quarantine hotel... it’s a bit hollow.
I may try turning it off and back on again tomorrow...

i’ll take a non working odometer over a non working engine

So will I.

Somewhat annoying. Is the odometer stored in the cluster or could you pull it via ODBII or something?

I’m fairly sure it’s in the ECU so it could be pulled via O DB II...I do recall some mention of cluster issues with these things so it probably has something to do with that. I'm not sure I care enough as long as it keeps running long enough for the new Isuzu MUX to turn up in 2022...

If it’s an immo2 cluster, it’s fairly easy and trivial to change, you just need the ECU/cluster PIN code that can be extracted with a cheap KKL cable and Vagcommander or VagTacho and match both the ECU and the cluster IMMO-ID or simply re-flash the ECU with an immo-off tune (what i have).
If it’s an immo3, if i recall correctly it’s slightly harder but still doable .
I have an immo2 on my A3 and used a generic KKL cable i had laying around to retrieve the PIN code with a cracked VagTacho (did have to try a few different version to find one working with my non VagTacho specific cable) which i needed to be able to program a the key transponders in VCDS to my “new” ECU (with a generic stage 1) but i could also change the odometer in VagTacho if i wanted.
And you could upgrade your cluster that have the LCD screen in the center.
ps: A3 8L and TT also have their LCD screen failing fairly often and there are many companies that can do the job, you send the cluster and it comes back fixed but i still would personally go the instrument cluster swap route :)

Finding another cluster in Oz AND t ooling up to do this is honestly a pain in the arse, potentially expensive and frankly low on the list of priorities.
Especially since I haven’t been arsed to even troubleshoot...but at least I have posted about it on Oppo!!

That sounds pretty involved. In my 90s Civics all you had to do was 4 screws and unplug the harness. Plug it back in and boom the car has 100,000 fewer miles and a tach!

That’s sad, in Europe they cost around 40€ including shipping and a less than 10€ cable .
Physically swapping them can be done in less than 5 minute.
